ShowBusiness: The Road to Broadway is a new documentary film by Dori Berinstein that follows the productions of four of Broadway's biggest shows during the 2003-2004 season. Berinstein's backstage access grants viewers a rare behind-the-scenes view of the creative process - from casting call to curtain call - that captures all of the heartbreak and hilarity of opening a Broadway show.   The film will debut on DVD with all new special features today, October 16 from Genius Products and Liberation Entertainment at a suggested SRP of $28.95.

"ShowBusiness follows four high-profile productions that eventually became Tony Award nominees. The shows profiled include Wicked, the box-office busting musical adaptation of the literary prequel to The Wizard of Oz, Taboo, the controversial Rosie O'Donnell/Boy George collaboration, the quasi-operatic Tony Kushner/Jeanine Tesori musical Caroline, or Change, and Avenue Q, an irreverent puppet musical that became the sleeper hit of the season.  From casting to staging, from previews to red-carpet opening nights, from the nomination announcements to the suspense-filled Tony Night, ShowBusiness provides a never-before-seen look at the inner workings of Broadway Musicals...

Director Dori Berinstein casts a camera's eye on rehearsals, backstage dramas, and the mysteriously wondrous creative process. Among those featured in the film are Rosie O'Donnell, Boy George, Euan Morton, Anika Noni Rose, Stephen Schwartz, John Tartaglia and Tony Award® winners Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Harvey Fierstein, Tony Kushner, John Lithgow, Bobby Lopez, Jeff Marx, Idina Menzel, Liza Minelli, Tonya Pinkins and George C. Wolfe.

Co-Produced by Tony Award winner Alan Cumming, ShowBusiness: The Road to Broadway was a 2006 International Documentary Association (IDA) Distinguished Documentary Award Finalist, and won the Best Documentary Feature Grand Jury Prize at the 2006 Florida Film Festival.
