Sheridan Smith to Lead London Workshop of Revamped EASTER PARADE; Jerry Mitchell to Helm?

The Daily Mail reports that Sheridan Smith is in negotiations to star in a London workshop of Irving Merlin's EASTER PARADE, featuring a new book by Ken Ludwig and additional songs by Berlin. Jerry Mitchell will direct.

Smith will join Alex Gaumond (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Dan Burton (Chichester's Gypsy) and Sophie Isaacs (Made In Dagenham) in the cast.

The 1948 movie version of EASTER PARADE, featuring Fred Astaire and Judy Garland, included songs such as "Easter Parade", "It Only Happens When I Dance With You", "Steppin' Out With My Baby" and more.

This revamped production of EASTER PARADE is aiming for a West End debut next year.

Smith has starred in the West End in Michael Grandage's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hedda Gabler at the Old Vic, Legally Blonde, Little Shop of Horrors, Bugsy Malone, Bridget Jones' Diary and more.

Mitchell is directing the new Broadway musical On Your Feet! and counts Kinky Boots, Catch Me If You Can, Legally Blonde, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, La Cage aux Folles, Never Gonna Dance, Gypsy, Imaginary Friends, Hairspray, The Rocky Horror Show, The Full Monty, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown and more among his many director and choreographer credits.
