Join braiNY, the Greater New York City Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience, as they present Pregame Your Brain: Your Ever-Changing Brain! Scientists refer to the brain as plastic not because it bounces when you drop it (it won't, don't try it at home), but because it is always changing as we learn and relate to the world around us. Join the braiNY team as they explore how the brain adapts, learns, and communicates with YOUR brain! Learn more about braiNY initiatives at https://comebebrainy.com.

Cramming for the Midterms: how we got so polarized (and what to do about it)

WED // SEP 19 // 2018

The science behind why our politics got so insane (and what we can do about it).

This is a series about the fundamental principles of social and political life. If you're looking for a rundown of "he-said," "she-said" analyses, or a bunch of talking heads talking past each other on today's top issues, you're in the wrong place. Instead, we share some of the deepest social science findings behind how everything got so fucked. You'll leave with a new lens to understand the news - and how to use it for good. It's string theory for the midterm elections.

SHOW #2: How We Got So Polarized (and what to do about it)

Polarization! We are obsessed with it. But it's actually not all bad out there. We discuss the real evidence for polarization, why political views are so hard to change, and what all of this says for how we can stitch ourselves back together again where it counts.

This is a 5-event series leading up to the midterm elections: you can come to single events or get a series pass (5 shows for $50).

Doors: 6:30pm

Show: 7:00pm

Tickets: $15 in advance, $20 at the door

Series Pass (5 events): $50

Events are 21+

Venue is mixed seating and standing-room: arrive early to get a good seat!

OTHER EVENTS IN THE SERIES:

Why democracy is f*cked (and what to do about it) 8/14

How we got so biased (and what to do about it) 10/10

Why voting is irrational (and what to do about it) 10/24

Exam Study Session (We can't possibly predict what will happen in this election - we're leaving this topic open to cover relevant events!) 11/4
