Plan-B continues 2011/12 season with the world premiere of Debora Threedy's THE THIRD CROSSING.

Meet the cast in the video!

Although the 2010 Census confirms that 1 in 5 Utahns is now a member of an ethnic minority, an immigration bill fashioned after Arizona's controversial law was signed into law during Utah's 2011 Legislative Session. On a broader scale, it was recently considered newsworthy to disclose that Michelle Obama also has a white ancestor. Sadly, there appears to be no end in sight for the micro- and macro-fascination (and uneasiness) Americans feel regarding issues of race.

Plan-B is honored to produce the world premiere of Debora Threedy's THE THIRD CROSSING (winner of the 2010 Fratti-Newman Politcal Play Contest). This production will be Plan-B's third of Debora Threedy's work in five seasons (following THE END OF THE HORIZON in 2008 and WALLACE in 2010).

THE THIRD CROSSING confronts interracial relationships and the impact our society's prejudices have on those who dare to love across the color line. Further, it examines how the offspring of interracial relationships trouble and destabilize our conceptions of racial identity. The play explores the story of the "founding couple" of interracial relationships, Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, through Jefferson's own writings, lectures by a feminist scholar studying Sally Hemings, excerpts from actual trials for violations of anti-miscegenation laws, a conversation with the plaintiffs in the historic case - Loving v. Virginia - that struck down such laws, the story of a contemporary woman who learns of her father's dark secret after his death and an interview with a scientist who speaks of the myth of race from a biological perspective.
