The Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers is pleased to announce a new Fellowship in honor of past Executive Director Barbara Hauptman who served SSDC for 12 dedicated years. Currently SSDC is searching for a Fellow interested in Arts Management to serve as the 2009 Hauptman Fellow.

The Hauptman Fellowship is a three-month internship, with stipend, designed to offer opportunities to participate in the daily workings of a national labor union, and aid in the preparation and research for National Theatre labor negotiations. Responsibilities include: research projects, contract and data analysis, aid in compilation of relevant bargaining materials, organization of committee meetings and special project support as necessary. The Fellow will also attend most staff, Board, and negotiation meetings that occur during the Fellow's tenure.

"Barbara's contribution to SSDC will continue to inspire us for years to come," said Laura Penn, Executive Director of SSDC. "This Fellowship is one way to honor her very personal commitment to developing the next generation of leadership."

This Fellowship has been established by the Boards of the SSDC and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation in honor of Barbara Hauptman's twelve years of service. In addition to her commitment to the art and craft of directing and choreography, Barbara has been an advocate for the theatrical labor community and has been dedicated to development of labor leadership. The inaugural Hauptman Fellowship will be awarded in February 2009.

All applicants must submit a resume, two letters of recommendation, and a cover letter detailing why they would like to be considered for this Fellowship. The application deadline is February 1, 2009 with a starting date of May 15th.
