Producing Founding Artistic Director Liz Flemming, Associate Artistic Director, Ethan Paulini and Out of the Box Theatrics is pleased to welcome Alyssa Champagne's musical She is a Shipwreck to their new reading series Building the Box. Shipwreck will be presented on Monday, October 16 at 7:30pm at Alice's Tea Cup, 220 E. 81st St. between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. For tickets and info visit www.ootbtheatrics.com. This project replaces the previously announced From the Manor Torn.

It's her first night back in New York City after a three-month trip on a boat and all Alyssa wants to do is go back to normal. Normal, of course, means going to a bar to escape. Instead, Alyssa finds herself wrapped up in a conversation with a man at the bar about her three months on Black Powder and the more she spills, the more Alyssa feels surrounded by the wreckage of the life she left on land. Written by Alyssa Champagne and Kevin Jaeger with a vibrant and original score by Mr. Jaeger & Jason Sager, She is a Shipwreck tackles issues of mental health and heartbreak with a sharp wit and brutal honesty we all crave in life, but often only find in a bar. Kelly McCready directs.

"I am so thrilled to welcome Alyssa and this compelling new piece to OOTB and our Building the Box Series," says Paulini. "Shipwreck's musicality, candor and humor while dealing with such a sensitive subject as mental illness is not only refreshing and provocative, it is wildly entertaining. When it became clear that we had to find a replacement piece, I could think of no better artist to include in this series. I know our audiences are going to love Alyssa and Shipwreck."

Curated by Paulini, this new series features 3 new pieces that are being considered for full production in the 2018 (and beyond) season. With a renewed commitment to presenting World, American and New York Premieres, this series is designed to give OOTB subscribers and patrons unprecedented access to the programming process, the opportunity to provide feedback to an in progress new play and get a sneak peek into what is ahead, not only from OOTB, but from some of America's most exciting new playwrights.

The series began September 25 with Danielle Mohlman's Nexus directed by Amiee Turner. The series closes on November 6 with David Caudle's Damsel.
