According to Variety, former Broadway stars of the 2006 season, Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore, will star in the up-coming feature film Blindness directed by Fernando Meirelles.

Adapted from Jose Saramago's novel about "an outbreak of blindness that sweeps an unidentified town…Ruffalo will play a doctor who loses his sight along with everyone else in town, except the doc's wife."

Mark Ruffalo made his Broadway debut and Tony Award-nominated performance in the 2006 revival of Awake and Sing! He has also appeared off-Broadway in The Moment When, and won the Theatre World Award for This is Our Youth in 1997 and the Lucille Lortel Award for the same role in 1999.  He was last seen on the big-screen in "Zodiac."

Julianne Moore recently made her Broadway debut opposite Bill Nighy in The Vertical Hour last winter.  Moore is a four-time Academy Award nominee and most recently appeared in "Children of Men."

The script is written by Don McKellar and Meirelles' 02 Filmes will produce.  Focus Features is selling the international rights. Shooting begins this summer in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
