Romantic And Touching Tale SEA MARKS Opens August 9 At Little Fish Theatre ImageA long-distance relationship blossoms between an Irish fisherman and a working woman from Liverpool in Gardner McKay's romantic and touching tale Sea Marks, opening August 9. Directed by Little Fish Theatre Company Member Richard Perloff, Sea Marks takes us back to a world where the handwritten word is powerful enough to trigger long-distance love and when the call of the heart challenges the call of the wild.

Colm is a rough-hewn fisherman who lives by the sea on a remote island off the west of Ireland. Timothea lives in Liverpool where works in a book publishing house. They meet at a wedding, and an 18-month courtship follows, filled with letters full of alluring words like Timothea's never heard before. When they finally decide to meet again, what follows surprises them both and leads to lives they never thought possible.

"What I like best about Sea Marks is that, while it is unabashedly romantic, it's not simplistic. As Shakespeare once wrote: 'The course of true love never did run smooth,'" says director Perloff. "Our two lovers in the play, Colm and Timothea - an unlikely couple who somehow find their way to one another - are easy to root for, but author Gardner McKay is careful to also let us see the things that put a strain on their fledgling relationship. Ultimately, the play is bittersweet, and, to me, it feels all the more real for that."

Company Member Bill Wolski takes on the role of Colm. A winner of a StageSceneLA award for his work in LFT's Tryst, Wolski was seen in LFT's Provenance and Best of Pick of the Vine. Timothea is played by Andrea Gwynnel*, a new face to the LFT stage. Gwynnel was recently seen in the world premiere of God and Sex at the Santa Monica Playhouse, and has worked at Coachella Valley Rep and the Pasadena Shakespeare Company.

Sea Marks will run on Thursdays August 9 through August 30 at 8:00pm, with two Wednesday shows on August 22 and 29 at 8:00pm. There will be two Sunday 2:00pm matinees on August 12 and 19. The August 12 matinee features a special Talkback session where the actors and creative team will be available for a post-show discussion with the audience.

Founded in 2002 as an artists' ensemble, Little Fish Theatre presents classic and contemporary plays in an intimate setting on Centre Street in downtown San Pedro.

*This production is presented under the auspices of the Actors' Equity Los Angeles Membership Company Rule.
