'Purple,' 'Drowsy,' Etc. Among Grammy Award Nominees

The nominees for this year's Grammy Awards, which will be presented on February 11th in Los Angeles, have been announced.

Nominated in the category of Best Musical Show Album were The Color Purple (on Angel Records), The Drowsy Chaperone (on Ghoslight) Jersey Boys (on Rhino), The Pajama Game (on Columbia) and Sweeney Todd (on Nonesuch).

"There's Nothing Like a Show on Broadway," written by Mel Brooks/> for the film version of The Producers, was nominated as "Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media."

John Lithgow/> was nominated for Best Musical Album for Children for his "Sunny Side of the Street," while theatre veterans Jim Dale/> and Lynn Redgrave/> were nominated in the category of Best Spoken Word Album for Children - for "Peter Pan" and "The Witches," respectively.

Beyonce Knowles/> and Jamie Foxx/> - both stars of the Dreamgirls film - received Grammy nods this year.  Knowles was recognized for Best Solo R&B Vocal Performance for "B'Day," while Foxx received a nod as Best R&B Album for "Unpredictable."

Other nominees in various categories included Bette Midler/>, Tony Bennett, Michael Buble and Karrin Allyson.  Among pop and rock musicians, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Sheryl Crow and Mary J. Blige were among those who scored nominations.  Blige topped the list of nominees with eight.
