Tony-Award winner Kathleen Chalfant (Angels in America: Millenium Approaches, Wit,) will partake in a reading of Prophecy at Makor, 7PM on April 23rd. Directed by the show's playwright, Karen Malpede, the reading will also feature George Bartenieff, Jake Robards, and Najla Said.

According to press notes, Prophecy "uses humor and compassion to explore the impact of war on the lives of complex, well-intentioned people," as "history, myth and memory erupt inside a marriage."

Makor will also offer a number of other events in April.  On April 14th, there will be a performance of Acoustic Theater at 9 PM.  Acoustic Theater is "Makor's new monthly series, featuring play readings paired with tunes from emerging singer/songwriters. Writers slated to participate in the coming months include Clay McLeod Chapman, Zayh Dorn, Quincy Long and Tony-winner Mark O'Donnell.

On Sunday, April 15th at 1 PM and 3 PM, there will be a performance of Tales of Custard the Dragon.  Based on a story by Ogden Nash, the musical features music by Brad Ross, lyrics by Danny Whitman and an adaptation by Mary Hall Surface. "Join Custard the Dragon along with his friends Ink, Blink and Mustard as they embark on a musical journey in which our most unlikely hero finds the courage to rescue his beloved Belinda from a menacing Pirate and a wicked Knight. This concert is appropriate for ages 5 and up."

On Sunday, April 15th at 7 PM, the concert I Remember will be presented.  "Nina Fine performs songs from this poignant musical about Anne Frank. The work is based on Frank's diaries and was commissioned by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum."

A staged reading of Mary Gallagher's I Know You're the One will be performed on April 16th at 7 PM.  The play "follows a Jewish Manhattan expatriate who tries to adopt a child in the wilds of Los Angeles. Earlier versions of the script were workshopped to great acclaim by the LAByrinth Theater and the Philadelphia Theater Company."

Mortified will be performed on April 18th at 8 PM.  Mortified "is a comic excavation of teen angst artifacts (journals, poems, letters, lyrics, home movies, etc.) as shared by their original authors…in front of total strangers. Hear grown men and women confront their past with firsthand tales of their... first kiss, first puff, worst prom, fights with mom, life at bible camp, worst hand job, best mall job, and reasons they deserved to marry Bon Jovi. Submissions come from a wide range of participants, from professional performers to total amateurs."

On April 23rd at 7 PM, "From the Stage to the Front Page: The Resonance of Inherit the Wind" will be presented. "As the play Inherit the Wind returns to Broadway with a cast including Christopher Plummer and Brian Dennehy, a panel of religious and secular speakers discusses the conflicts between evolution and creationism that infused the Scopes 'Monkey' trial and continue to influence American culture. Panelists include author Rabbi David Nelson and members of the Broadway production's creative team.

Presented by the 92nd St. Y, Makor is located at 35 West 67th Street. Tickets are $15 and available by calling (212) 601-1000 or online at www.makor.org.
