Pig Iron Theatre Hosts PIGS IN SPACE! A "Cabaret/rocksplosion/medicine Show" 11/6
For years, the Pig Iron Theatre Company has been taking audiences to places where few have dared go before. This time our double-OBIE-winning ensemble will rock you in a one-night-only cabaret that will take you farther than that, farther than the rings of Saturn, beyond the reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy. PIGS IN SPACE!, a cabaret/rocksplosion/Medicine Show, will be full to the brim with feats of derring-do, near-classic pop songs, and unspeakable hilarity.
Modeled on Pig Iron's way-out, blow-out, sold-out cabarets held annually at the enormous Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia, PIGS IN SPACE! will take place on the evening of November 6th at the Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO. This talent-cavalcade will be emceed by toothy and toothsome Co-Artistic Director Quinn Bauriedel, with frequent appearances by Miss Martha Graham Cracker, Official Company Chanteuse and drag alter-ego of Pig Iron co-founder Dito van Reigersberg.
Martha Graham Cracker and her hirsute, dramatically confusing beauty have been the subject of much speculation and murmuring-she has been called "the drag-queen king" (Philadelphia Inquirer); named Best Drag Queen in the Citypaper's Reader's Choice Awards; lauded as "the spectacularly unmatched queen of the Philadelphia drag cabaret" (Phillyist); and has terrorized the nation's capital--"[She sings] twisted, initially unrecognizable versions of familiar hits....Rest assured that no one is safe from Martha Graham Cracker" (The Washington Post). She has established quite a following in Philadelphia with her monthly cabaret series at L'Etage, but PIGS IN SPACE! will mark her NYC debut. She will be joined by her intergalactically gifted band.
The Pig Iron crew will be joined by special guests, including: The Main Squeeze Accordionists, an all-female, neon-bright accordion orchestra; the unbelievable lioness and returning-champ of Galapagos striptease, Typhoon Sugarpants; and songwriting wunderkind and Civilians composer Michael Friedman.
