Teens on Broadway at Circle in the Square

On June 7th at Circle in the Square Theatre six New York City public high school performing arts programs were given a rare opportunity to present and observe best works by peers from across the City on a Broadway stage. Each school's program and teaching approach was introduced by a teacher-liaison from the school. Scroll down for photos from the event!

Teens On Broadway is Circle in the Square Theatre School's new initiative to celebrate, encourage and build the community of students, teachers and administrators in pre-professional performing arts programs at 30 public high schools across the City's 5 boroughs. that began in June, 2012 with a pilot featuring Edward R. Murrow and Humanities And The Arts High Schools. With its annual Teens On Broadway event, Circle in the Square Theatre School is welcoming this collective community of schools to Broadway for the first time.

Online components provide new tools for ongoing interaction, for sharing best practices and inviting each other to school performances.

Circle in the Square Theatre School's Director of Educational Outreach Jonathan Mann created and directs Teens on Broadway to provide access and to encourage the diverse mix of NYC public high school students the program serves to become the performers, behind the scenes workers and theatergoers who will make New York's theater scene continue and thrive in the coming decades.
