Photo Flash: ALTAR BOYZ Makes Its Debut At The Theater Barn New Lebanon

Altar Boyz is the off-Broadway phenomenon, which ran an astounding 2,032 performances over five years in New York City, winning the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Musical. With book by Kevin Del Aguilla and music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker, this spoof of a Christian boy band is a guaranteed hysterical revelation. The Altar Boyz themselves are five small town boys from Ohio, heaven bent on rocking the world one soul at a time. There's Matthew, the heart-throb; Mark, the sensitive one; Luke, the bad boy; Juan, the Latin lover and Abraham, the "Gelfilte fish out of water." The show finds them on their final night of their "Raise the Praise" tour, where song, dance, soul-saving and hilarious confessions are certain to lift spirits, and spread a message of faith, love and brotherhood.

The cast of Altar Boyz includes Theater Barn favorite, Trey Compton as Matthew, who has been seen here in Little Shop of Horrors and as Freddie in Dirty rotten Scoundrels among others. Steven Cardona as Abraham, was seen here last season as Tank in Zanna Don't and three newcomers to the Barn- Tom Garruto as Luke, Eddie Maldonado as Juan and Barry Shafrin as Mark. The show is staged and directed by Theater Barn veteran Bert Bernardi whose many shows include Urinetown, Johnny Guitar and Musical of Musicals, the Musical. Victoria Cassella returns to musical direct.

Altar Boyz runs from August 12 - August 22 at the fully air conditioned Theater Barn located at 654 Route 20 in New Lebanon, NY. Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 5pm and 8:30pm and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets are $24.00 for the evening performances and $22.00 for the Sunday matinees.
