Film, TV and theatre luminaries attended the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity Award Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on May 20th.
In addition to Nobel Peace Prize-winning Holocaust survivor, author and activist Wiesel, the event was attended by talk show host, actress and The Color Purple producer Oprah Winfrey, film director Ron Howard (upcoming Frost/Nixon film), TV journalist Barbara Walters, and stage and screen stars Dustin Hoffman and Elizabeth Berkley, screen legend Sidney Poitier and supermodel Iman, among others. Winfrey was honored by the Elie Wiesel Foundation for her humanitarian work over the years.
"Elie Wiesel and his wife, Marion, established The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity soon after he was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize for Peace. The Foundation's mission, rooted in the memory of the Holocaust, is to combat indifference, intolerance and injustice through international dialogue and youth-focused programs that promote acceptance, understanding and equality. The Foundation runs multiple programs both domestically and internationally," state notes on the organization's website.
