Penguin Rep Theatre and SUNY Rockland Community College will present DE NOVO, a new play by Jeffrey Solomon based on the true stories of undocumented youth in U.S. immigration custody, for one performance only, Saturday, November 21 at the college's Cultural Arts Theatre in Suffern, New York. Curtain is 8:00 p.m.

In 2002, a fourteen-year-old boy named Edgar Chocoy fled Guatemala to escape the largest gang in Central America, which had put a hit out on his life. He traveled over 3,000 miles, and across the borders of three countries in search for his mother, who had left him when he was baby to work in the United States. Detained by the Department of Homeland Security, he pleaded with a Colorado judge to grant him asylum and not deport him to Guatemala, where he was certain he would be killed.

Houses on the Moon Theater Company's acclaimed production, says Penguin Rep executive director Andrew M. Horn, "chronicles the gripping true story of Edgar and other undocumented youth, many thousands of whom make the harrowing journey across the border and through the U.S. system of justice each year. It is a documentary theatre piece crafted entirely from immigration court transcripts, letters, and extensive interviews conducted by Houses on the Moon Theater", says Mr. Horn.

DE NOVO will be performed in the 504-seat Cultural Arts Theatre at SUNY Rockland Community College, located at 145 College Road in Suffern.

The November 21 performance is part of the college's 50th anniversary celebration, and will be followed by a discussion with the creative team and immigration experts.

Tickets are $20, $15 for Penguin subscribers and RCC staff, and $10 for RCC students. All seating is reserved.
