Observership Applications for the 2009/10 Theatrical Season are now Available Online
By: Gabrielle Sierra Jul. 21, 2009
The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation's (SDCF) Observership Program was established to offer early-career directors and choreographers the opportunity to observe the work of master directors and choreographers as they create new productions on Broadway, off-Broadway and at leading regional theatres. SDCF Observers have access to the entire rehearsal process, from first rehearsal through opening night. Past mentors include: Kathleen Marshall, Doug Hughes, Oz Scott, Leigh Silverman, Des McAnuff, Sergio Trujillo and Chay Yew.
Each Observership includes a modest stipend to help defray the recipient's expenses during the rehearsal period. In addition, a small need-based travel and housing supplement will be available to those Observers that qualify. Also, any Observer who is not already a member of SDC will be awarded a one-year SDC Associate membership upon completion of their Observership. This season, 100 applications will be selected by a committee of established industry professionals, past mentors and SDC Board Members to be placed in an "Active" applicant pool. Only these 100 applicants will be considered for the season's 25 opportunities. Though inelligible, applicants not chosen will have their contact information kept and added to the SDC mailing list for invitations to special SDC events throughout the year. Application to this year's program is free to SDC Members and Associates. A $15 application fee is required to apply for those unaffiliated with SDC.Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation
