OUTSIDE MULLINGAR Will Come to The Schoolhouse Theater
Performances begin May 15 and run through May 31.
The Schoolhouse Theater, one of Westchester's longest-running professional Equity theaters, will launch its 41st Season with Outside Mullingar, the acclaimed romantic comedy by Academy Award–winning writer John Patrick Shanley (Moonstruck, Doubt).
Set in the lush Irish countryside, Outside Mullingar tells the story of two reserved, stubborn neighbors whose lives have been shaped by missed chances and unspoken feeling. With Shanley's signature blend of wit, lyricism, and emotional honesty, the play unfolds into a love story that is as funny as it is unexpectedly moving.
Directed by the Schoolhouse Theater's beloved Producing Director Bram Lewis, the production features a professional cast familiar to Schoolhouse audiences, including Michael Daly (Faith Healer) —known for his trademark whimsy and grounded intensity—alongside a company of actors whose work reflects the theater's ongoing commitment to intimate, actor-driven storytelling.
Now in its 41st season, the Schoolhouse Theater has built a reputation for producing critically acclaimed work in a uniquely intimate setting. With just 92 seats, the theater offers an immediate and engaging audience experience that continues to resonate across the region. The company has been recognized with three consecutive BroadwayWorld Rockland/Westchester Awards for Westchester's Favorite Local Theater, and has earned praise from leading artists, including Austin Pendleton, who has called it “Westchester's Essential Theater.”
Outside Mullingar continues that tradition with a play that is accessible, sharply funny, and deeply human—an evening of theater that invites audiences to laugh freely while being quietly, genuinely moved.
Performances begin May 15 and run through May 31, with Friday evening performances at 7pm and Saturday and Sunday performances at 3pm and 7pm.
