Nothing To Perform Brings Dark New Play GRIP. To Tristan Bates

From N2P - the creative team who brought you the sell-out show Play 2 - comes; GRIP. a brand new piece of writing about trauma, accusations, psychosis and suspicion. GRIP. is based on a true and previously untold story. It bravely takes on one of the most divisive oversights in today's legal system.

Trev finds himself surrounded by an unsettling world that glitches, skips and repeats like a old tape recording. As we watch Trev and his Dad try to overcome their masculine inhibitions to deal with the loss of Trev's mother, it becomes clear there's something else going on, something malevolent bubbling under the surface...

"In neurological terms, there is no distinct difference between the act of remembering and the act of thinking."

The only person who shares Trev's uncertainty and anxious confusion is Louise, a young girl grappling with her parents' imminent divorce.

"I haven't slept for days. When my dad can't sleep, he says he lies in bed and tries to remember things that he's never remembered before..."

But when Trev and Louise's lives collide for the first time on an ill-fated night out, the two are forever changed. Trev is arrested and the circumstances of his class, gender, and mental health coalesce into a tale that is both inventive and cautionary.

GRIP. is the reworked and revamped version of Play 2 - a work in progress piece which premiered at the Actors Centre to a sold out audience as part of the Actor Awareness Working Class Stories season. It was due to this run that N2P were offered a week in the Tristan Bates Theatre to fully explore the themes, characters and narrative which make this piece so uniquely enthralling.

Writer and RADA MA graduate Scott Howland leads the cast in this gritty and original piece. This is Howland's third play having written and performed at the Tristan Bates Theatre, RADA Festival and the Camden Fringe. BroadwayWorld UK says, "Howland is relaxed, charming and has a natural ability to command attention on stage."

New York City native and fellow RADA MA graduate Harriet Taylor's direction has been called "innovative and brave" by The Open Door. She spent 2018 directing projects for the likes of Theatre 503, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and the RADA Festival. She is now Assistant Producer at The Mono Box and Mercury Musical Developments.
