New Play Pilgrims Opens July 14 at Medicine Show Theatre

 The Babel Theatre Project will present the world premiere of Jamie Carmichael's Pilgrims, directed by Geordie Broadwater and produced by Jeremy Blocker; the play will begin performances on Friday, July 8, and open on Thursday, July 14 at the Medicine Show Theatre. After its New York run it is complete, Pilgrims will be featured at the world renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Pilgrims deals with issues of love and loss Following a group of young people trying to find their way in a difficult world, Pilgrims explores the intense human desire to be needed and devastating consequences that come to pass when that sense of need is not satisfied.

Included in the cast are Rufus Tureen (SPF's Colorado, The Man in the Flying Lawn Chair), Emily Young, Eric Murdoch (Hiroshima 2005: The Apology Module) and Catherine Gowl (Proof, Hamlet, I'm Not Peter Pan) Melissa Goldman (sets), Joshua Randall (lights), Anthony Gabrielle (sound) and Meredith James (costumes) comprise the creative team of the show.

Carmichael is a member of the Royal Court Young Writer's Programme, and graduate of its Advanced Invitational Workshop. Theatre credits include: Eddystone (dir: Femi Elufowoju, Jnr., Royal Court Theatre, 2003), Laundry (dir.: Vicky Jones, Three Short Plays TC, London, 2004), The Gospel According to St. Thomas (Trilogy Theatre, NYC, 2002), Odeon (Loeb Experimental Theater, Cambridge MA, 2001). Film credits: Love Serenade (short feature, Third Tier Productions, 2000). He has recently been commissioned to write a short film for Diego Luna's entry into the 2005 BBC Talent Competition.

Broadwater's directing credits include: The Moliere Impromptu by Rinne Groff (Trinity Repertory Theater, Providence, RI, 2005) Temptation by Vaclav Havel (Loeb Drama Center Mainstage, Cambridge, MA, 2003), Conduct of Life by Maria Irene Fornes (Loeb Drama Center Experimental Theater, 2003), Baal by Bertolt Brecht (Loeb Drama Center Experimental Theater, 2002).

Pilgrim's performance schedule is Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8 PM, and running time is 75 minutes with no intermission. The Medicine Show Theatre is located at 549 West 52 Street, 3rd Floor.
