New Globe's The Scarlet Letter Begins Previews May 31
The New Globe Theatre, Inc. will present the second production of their current 2006-2007 season: a new adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's renowned novel, The Scarlet Letter, adapted for the stage by New Globe Artistic Director Stuart Vaughan with Marie Kreutziger. Performances begin Thursday, May 31st for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 17th at The Gene Frankel Theatre (24 Bond Street). Opening Night is set for Sunday, June 3 at 3:00 p.m.Directed by Vaughan, the cast features Jana Mestecky as Hester, Bridget Riley as Pearl, Craig Rising as Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, and William Shust as Chillingworth. "The tale of adultery, guilt, and revenge is set in colonial Massachusetts in the mid-17th century, dealing with the universal question of sexual repression and inner turmoil. The New Globe Theatre, Inc. adaptation of The Scarlet Letter basks in the grand language of Hawthorne, a master wordsmith, that actors and audiences will rediscover and fall in love with. His splendid language brings to the stage a nobility and musicality reminiscent of Shakespeare," as production notes describe the show.
The Scarlet Letter will play the following performance schedule: Wednesdays - Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m & 8:00 p.m and Sundays at 3:00 at The Gene Frankel Theatre (24 Bond Street).
