New Art City Theatre to Accept Submissions for 4th Annual Playwrights Festival
The Ventura, CA company's FESTIVAL '27 will offer free staged readings with talkback sessions for four selected works.
New Art City Theatre (NACT) in Ventura, California will begin accepting submissions on May 29 for Festival '27, the company's fourth annual playwrights festival. The festival will take place March 4–7, 2027, and will feature staged readings of four selected new plays or musicals, followed by audience talkback sessions.
Festival '27 will include both matinee and evening readings and will be presented free to the public. The online submission portal will remain open through July 10, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
According to NACT, the festival is designed to support emerging playwrights through a blind submission process intended to provide equal access to opportunities in theatre development. Selected writers will participate in a week-long residency in Ventura focused on the continued development of their work and collaboration with artists and audiences.
Submitted works must be original full-length plays or musicals with a runtime of at least 75 minutes. Eligible submissions may not be published or previously produced in either amateur or professional settings. A $25 administrative fee is required for entry.
All submissions will be reviewed by the NACT reading team, with up to four projects selected for inclusion in the festival residency and public readings.
