New A Chorus Line Cast Album to be Released Oct. 3

The new Broadway production of the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical A Chorus Line will be recorded by Masterworks Broadway on Monday, August 14, at Skywalker Sound Studio in Marin County, CA. 

The New Broadway Cast Recording will include the bonus track, "The Overture That Never Was," specially arranged for this album and performed on two pianos by Marvin Hamlisch.  In addition, "And," a previously unrecorded musical number, will be available as an exclusive iTunes download.  The New Broadway Cast recording of the 2006 production of A Chorus Line will be produced by David Caddick, Marvin Hamlisch and Jonathan Tunick for Masterworks Broadway and available in stores everywhere Tuesday, October 3, 2006. 

A Chorus Line is currently playing at San Francisco's Curran Theatre where it opened Wednesday, August 2, 2006; it plays through Saturday, September 2, 2006.  A Chorus Line returns to the heart of Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 W. 45th St) Monday, September 18, and will open on Thursday, October 5, 2006.

Directed by its original Tony Award winning co-choreographer Bob Avian, A Chorus Line was conceived and originally choreographed and directed by Michael Bennett, and features a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban. Baayork Lee re-stages the original choreography.  A Chorus Line is produced by John Breglio for Vienna Waits Productions.

The company features Ken Alan (Bobby), Brad Anderson (Don), Michael Berresse (Zach), Natalie Cortez (Diana), Charlotte D'Amboise (Cassie), Mara Davi (Maggie), Jessica Lee Goldyn (Val), Deidre Goodwin (Sheila), Tyler Hanes (Larry), James T. Lane (Richie), Paul McGill (Mark), Heather Parcells (Judy), Michael Paternostro (Greg), Alisan Porter (Bebe), Jeffrey Schecter (Mike), Yuka Takara (Connie), Jason Tam (Paul), Chryssie Whitehead (Kristine) and Tony Yazbeck (Al) in a cast of 29 that includes Michelle Aravena, David Baum, Mike Cannon, E. Clayton Cornelious, Joey Dudding, Lyndy Franklin, Nadine Isenegger, Pamela Jordan, Lorin Latarro, and Grant Turner.

The new production features scenery by Robin Wagner, costumes by Theoni V. Aldredge, lighting by Tharon Musser adapted by Natasha Katz and sound by Acme Sound Partners.  Musical direction and supervision is by Patrick Vaccariello, orchestrations are by Jonathan Tunick, Billy Byers and Hershey Kay and vocal arrangements are by Don Pippin.

The original production of A Chorus Line opened at the Public Theater's Newman Theatre on May 21, 1975 and transferred to Broadway's Shubert Theatre on July 25th, opening there on October 19th of that year.  It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Score and Book, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award.  It ran for nearly 15 years, closing on April 28, 1990 after 6,137 performances.  A Chorus Line remains the longest running American musical in Broadway history.

Tickets for A Chorus Line on Broadway are available through Telecharge, (212) 239-6200 or www.telecharge.com.  In previews, performances will be Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m., with matinee performances on Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. (The week of September 18, the show will play Monday rather than Tuesday.)  Beginning October 16, the show will play Monday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. with matinee performances on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets prices are $110.00 and $85.00.  Premium seating is available.
