Side Effects May Include is a daringly funny and provocative one-man show about early onset Parkinson's disease. Phil is a stand-up comedian, living a reasonably happy married life. His only complaint? Wife Maggie's waning sex drive. It provides ample fodder for his stand-up act -- until she is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and their life takes an unexpected turn -- some of it for the better. Based on a funny, touching, true story, which made a splash when it was told in a condensed form in a Modern Love column in the New York Times, former Seinfeld writer, Marc Jaffe shares his own experience and finds that sometimes it's not the disease that changes us,so much as the side effects.

Side Effects May Include offers audiences a hysterical roller-coaster ride through escalating mountains of pills, dangerous yet faithful liaisons, secrets, questions of manhood and womanhood, age, desire, faith, more pills, stage fright, bed fright, a few more pills, love, and ultimately, the fear that our personalities, hopes and passions may be nothing but non-tamper-resistant chemical reactions in mischievous corners of our brains.

Nick Koesters is a member of the resident acting company at the Barter Theater in Virginia. He originated the role of Phil in SEMI at Cleveland Public Theater and has become so enamored with the power of this play that he has used his vacation month, both last year and this, to produce, act in and promote this work strictly for charitable purposes. The SoHo Playhouse, recognizing the value in SEMI and Shaking With Laughter, a foundation that raises funds for Parkinson's research, has joined in to ensure that 100% of the money from ticket sales will go to research through the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
