A live concert recording of the New York Philharmonic's performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 1 conducted by Alan Gilbert will be available for streaming on the Orchestra's Website, nyphil.org, through July 31, 2009. The recording, made during the May 7-9, 2009 concerts in Avery Fisher Hall, offers the public an opportunity to hear Alan Gilbert's critically acclaimed performance of the entire symphony, which was cut short by thunderstorms during the free concert in Central Park on Friday, July 17, 2009.

Of the May performances of Mahler's Symphony No. 1, the New York Times wrote that, "it was a thrill to hear the work performed with such precision and daring by the Philharmonic under Mr. Gilbert."

Alan Gilbert, who becomes the 25th Music Director of the New York Philharmonic in September, conducted all of this summer's free Concerts in the Parks, Presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer, which took place in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, as well as two free indoor concerts in Staten Island and Queens. This year's free summer concerts reached more than 148,000 people.
