The June broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begin with the final program from The Bach Variations: A Philharmonic Festival, with Andras Schiff in his Philharmonic conducting debut and performing as the piano soloist.

The program juxtaposes Bach's Keyboard Concertos in F minor and D major with Mendelssohn's String Symphony No. 9 and Schumann's Symphony No. 4. Music Director Alan Gilbert takes the podium for the following two broadcasts, both part of Gilbert's Playlist, which showcases the varied interests, close collaborations, and creative programming ideas that have become a hallmark of the Music Director's tenure. In the first program Alan Gilbert leads the Orchestra in Copland's Clarinet Concerto, featuring Acting Principal Clarinet Mark Nuccio, and Wynton Marsalis's Swing Symphony (Symphony No. 3), featuring Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. The program opens with Assistant Conductor Case Scaglione leading the Orchestra in Stravinsky's Ragtime and Shostakovich's Tahiti Trot. In the third week of broadcasts Alan Gilbert will conduct Dallapiccola's rarely performed serialist opera Il Prigioniero. Bass-baritone Gerald Finley will appear as The Prisoner, soprano Patricia Racette will make her Philharmonic debut as The Mother, tenor Peter Hoare will make his Philharmonic debut portraying The Jailer and Grand Inquisitor, tenor William Ferguson will make his Philharmonic debut portraying the First Priest, and baritone Sidney Outlaw will make his Philharmonic debut appearing as the Second Priest. The opening work on the program features violinist Lisa Batiashvili performing Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1. For the final broadcast in June, Lionel Bringuier will lead Dukas's The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 with Leonidas Kavakos, Kodaly's Dances of Galanta, and Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.
