Arlene Shuler, New York City Center's President & CEO, today announced the appointment of Vanessa Wise as V.P. of Development, beginning May 12.

Ms. Wise comes to New York City Center from The Juilliard School, where for the past six years she has served as Interim Vice President of Development and Public Affairs, Director of Development, and Director of Annual Giving and Major Gifts. For Time Inc. she served as Senior Brand Manager for InStyle, Time and Entertainment Weekly magazines, and Brand Manager of Fortune, Money, Business 2.0 and Fortune Small Business magazines. Prior to that, she was a development associate at The Washington Opera and Special Projects Coordinator for Development at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. A graduate of Brown University, Ms. Wise holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.

"As New York City Center continues to develop and present new programs for our diverse audiences, we are thrilled to have Vanessa here to help us reach these goals," said Shuler. "With her expertise in both business and the nonprofit arts world, we are confident that she will be a great asset to our team. We are happy to welcome Vanessa to the City Center family."

New York City Center, now in its 70th year, has played a defining role in the cultural life of the city since 1943. It was Manhattan's first performing arts center, dedicated by Mayor Fiorello La Guardia with a mission to make the best in music, theater and dance accessible to all audiences. Today, City Center is home to such distinguished companies as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Manhattan Theatre Club; a roster of renowned national and international visiting artists; and its own acclaimed programs, including Encores!, Encores! Off-Center, and the Fall for Dance Festival.
