The new musical Trolls has been announced as playing its last weeks at the Actors Playhouse after having begun previews at the theatre on May 4th and opening on May 19th.
The show, which explores the misconceptions often hurled at older gay men (who are sometimes called after the name of the title), is unique in that its actors sing live from a recorded music track Trolls' music is by Dick DeBenedictis with lyrics and book by Bill Dyer; "Work It!," Whatever Happened?," "Will Someone Remember Me?," "Gay Caballeros," and "If I Could Live My Life Again" are some of the show's songs.
Directed by Pamela Hall, choreographed by John Hoshko and presented by DBD Productions, Edmund Gaynes and Hall, the show is set in the apartment of Terry (the protagonist), and is billed as a cross between The Sunshine Boys and The Boys in the Band. "Trolls explores the lives of middle-aged gay men who realize
that 'growing old isn't for sissies"...they address
the universal themes of aging, relationships and the undying kinship of
true friends," stated the producers. The show currently stars Carl Danielsen (who replaced Mark Baker) as Terry, as well as Bram Heidinger, Albert Insinnia, Brynn Neal, Dale Radunz, James Van Treuren and Christian Whelan.
Trolls' features musical direction by Carl Danielsen, with the creative team comprising Matt Maraffi (sets), Graham
Kindred (lighting) and Karl A. Ruckdeschel (costume).
