The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) announces the first children's comics classes from its Education Department. The classes, COMIC ART FOR KIDS, focuses on comic art and is for children, ages 8 to 12. The classes offer a child-friendly, streamlined approach to learning the graphic language of line, form, and movement. Instructor Tom Motley will guide students through fun projects and activities designed to enable them to put their imaginative worlds down on paper as actual comics.

COMIC ART FOR KIDS will have two parts: Introduction to Comics Drawing and Introduction to Comics Storytelling. Introduction to Comics Drawing include topics like cartoon characters in motion, secrets of ink, and background basics. Introduction to Comic Storytelling include topics like the story-creating process, the comics format, and how to make "movies on paper." Students will produce comics pages starring characters of their own creation.

Each part has three sessions and take place on Saturday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Part one runs on June 19 & 26 and July 10 while part two runs on July 17, 24, & 31. The two parts can be taken separately, or together as a six-session class. For all six sessions, the tuition is $245 and $225 for MoCCA members' kids. For only one part, the tuition is $130 or $120 for MoCCA members' kids. Tuition includes all art materials. Parent/guardian will be required to sign permission forms for children, and to punctually drop off and pick up children.

Tom Motley teaches CARTOONING BASICS to adults at The School of Visual Arts. He has also been teaching his easy-to-learn drawing methods to children for over 20 years. Samples of his instructional handouts, comics, and illustrations can be seen on his website: http://www.tmotley.com
