MUSICAL THERAPY Original Comedy Musical Receives NYC Reading With Lauren Molina
New York City couples, singles, and every fling in between are getting some much needed Musical Therapy on Friday, November 30 as the original comedy musical stages its highly-anticipated NYC reading featuring Broadway's Lauren Molina.
Musical Therapy, with music and lyrics by Joey Katsiroubas and book by Dan Hass, follows a (very) single couples therapist who, ironically, can't find love herself. But when the beautiful, bulgy-biceped Mr. Wonderful moves into the office next door, it's obsession at first sight. And no obstacle or girlfriend is going to keep the manic couples counselor from getting her man. She'll ruin relationships, sabotage dates, and even push people out of the closet-mixing and matching her clients until it's just Wonderful and her. Forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever.
Musical Therapy premiered in Chicago at the Gorilla Tango Theatre, then as part of the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival-where the musical was nominated for six awards and took home Best Lyrics. The show made its Washington DC debut in 2018 at the acclaimed Capital Fringe and won the audience award for Best Musical.
The reading will be directed by Ilana Ransom Toeplitz (The Prom, Violet, Reefer Madness), produced by Don Michael Mendoza and Izzy Bartolotta (La Ti Do Productions) and Stephen Soucy (Romy and Michele The Musical), with Armelle Kay Harper (The Prom, Mean Girls, On Your Feet!) as production stage manager and music direction by James Woods. In addition to Lauren Molina (Rock of Ages, Sweeney Todd, The Skivvies), Musical Therapy features a cast with Rob Morrison (Avenue Q, NERDS, Nevermore), Lora Nicolas (StinkyKids, James & The Giant Peach), Joseph DePietro (Ragtime, Woof in Hair), Kayley Anne Collins (54 Below, Broadway Under the Stars), Zachary Harris Martin (Molasses in January, Speakeasy), and Bebe Tabickman (Click Clack Moo, Bagels From Benny).
Catch the NYC reading of Musical Therapy at Ripley Grier Studios (520 8th Ave) on Friday, Nov 30th at 3pm. Tickets can be found on Eventbrite and should be reserved in advance. Visit musicaltherapymusical.com for more information.
