MUJER(ES), An All-Female Flamenco Production Will Debut at El Barrio Artspace

Mujer(es), an all-female flamenco production will debut at New York City's El Barrio Artspace. In this intimate evening of flamenco music and dance, celebrated female flamenco artists are highlight of the evening. We are living in an important and monumental moment in time for women. A time when our strength and resiliency is an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. Now is the time to showcase the incredible impact that an all-female flamenco theatrical production can have.

A native New Yorker, Xianix Barrera studied flamenco first in New York and in Seville, Spain, where she trained under flamenco masters of music and dance. In 2008, she received a scholarship to Jacob Pillow's Cultural Traditions program; a prestigious intensive led by acclaimed flamenco dance company, Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca. Ms. Barrera's artistry and passion for flamenco has made her a prominent and sought-after dancer, a respected and dedicated teacher, and a dynamic producer. Ms. Barrera premiered as a soloist in 2012 in "Sabor Flamenco," a sold-out performance at the Poet's Den Theater in Spanish Harlem.

Ms. Barrera passionately believes in flamenco's power as a community art form, one in which nonverbal expression integrates all who participate in it regardless of differences in background and experience. Join her alongside a celebrated group of artists who have come together to give a special and vibrant presentation of flamenco in the heart of El Barrio.

Tickets to Mujer(es) are now on sale. All performances take place at El Barrio Artspace Theater, located at 215 E. 99th Street in Manhattan.
