MOTOWN THE MUSICAL Tour to End Run This June

After playing over 120 cities across the nation in four years, the record breaking smash hit production, MOTOWN THE MUSICAL, will conclude its national tour in the nation's Capital, playing the Filene Center at Wolf Trap at the end of June 2018. Over five million people will have experienced this critical and audience favorite between the first performance on Broadway until the final tour performance this June.

In 1959 the music of Motown began bringing people of different races, religions, cultures, and ages together and has provided a message of hope and healing ever since. The legacy continued with the world premiere of MOTOWN THE MUSICAL on Broadway in 2013. Nominated for four TONY Awards, the production continued to break weekly gross box office records during its 22 month run at The Lunt Fontanne Theater. The first national tour opened in Chicago in April 2014 grossing an impressive $20 Million dollars during its standing room only sixteen-week run, before this commercial hit started across the country where it continues to play to sold out houses and inspire audiences throughout North America.

Motown Founder, Berry Gordy, stated, "Motown was my impossible dream that came true. It could not have happened without the Motown artists, writers, producers and executives who followed me down roads that didn't even exist. It also happened because of the loyalty and love of Motown fans everywhere. I am so gratified that those same fans, their children, their grandchildren, even their great grandchildren all came to experience and enjoy the Legacy of Motown."

"The original Motortown Revue, traveling through a racially divided America, changed hearts and minds as it brought black and white audiences together with the "Sound of Young America," said Producer Kevin McCollum. "Touring this show over the past four years has continued to articulate this much needed message."

Producer Doug Morris, stated, "It has been an amazing experience to watch the impact the show has had on audiences across the country, inspiring so many with its message of social change and love. What better place to conclude the tour than in the nation's Capital."

"A big thank you goes out to the cast members, musicians, crew and management who have each contributed so much to the success of the show," exclaimed Producer, Stephen Gabriel.

MOTOWN THE MUSICAL continues to spread the message of unity across the pond with London's successful West End production now in its third year. A UK tour is also planned for Fall 2018.

Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, MOTOWN THE MUSICAL is the true American dream story of Motown founder Berry Gordy's journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and so many more. "Gordy oversaw his own revolution, becoming a formidable businessman, but more crucially a powerful force for cultural change as he fought to turn what was long called 'race music' into a universally lauded sound, and nurtured some of the greatest songwriters and performers of the era," according to the Chicago Sun Times.

MOTOWN THE MUSICAL features staging by Schele Williams, choreography re-created by Brian Harlan Brooks, original choreography by Patricia Wilcox (A Night with Janis Joplin) and Warren Adams (Toy Story), scenic design by David Korins (Bring It On: The Musical, Annie), costume design by Tony Award nominee Emilio Sosa (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, "Project Runway"), lighting design by Tony Award winner Natasha Katz (Once, Sister Act), sound design by Tony Award nominee Peter Hylenski (Rock of Ages, The Scottsboro Boys), projection design by Daniel Brodie (Aladdin), hair and wig design by Charles LaPointe (Memphis) and casting by Wojcik | Seay Casting.

MOTOWN THE MUSICAL's arrangements and orchestrations are by Grammy and Tony Award nominee Ethan Popp (Rock of Ages), who also serves as music supervisor in reproducing the classic "Sound of Young America," with co-orchestrations and additional arrangements by Tony Award nominee Bryan Crook ("Smash") and dance arrangements by Zane Mark (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).

Currently produced by Work Light Productions, MOTOWN THE MUSICAL was originally produced by Tony Award winning producer Kevin McCollum (Rent, In the Heights, Avenue Q), Chairman and CEO of 12Tone Music Doug Morris and Motown Founder Berry Gordy.
