The MCC Theater Youth Company will present Uncensored, their 5th annual spring presentation of original performances by New York City Youth.  The event will take place on April 27, April 28 and April 29 at 7pm (three performances only) at the Clurman Theatre - Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street, NYC).

Uncensored "is a collage of poetry and drama, original pieces written and performed for the stage by the MCC Theater Youth Company.  A cross between For Colored Girls… and Def Poetry Jam, the Uncensored youth performers explore their own personal issues as well as how their lives connect to the larger NYC community," according to press notes.

The show features teens from all five boroughs of New York City, ranging in age from 14 - 18 years old.  Participating high schools include:  Marble Hill High School for International Studies, La Guardia High School, High School of Fashion Industries, Discovery High School, DeWitt Clinton High School, John Adams High School and New Design High School.

MCC Theater Youth Company "is designed to inspire young people to find and express their voices through theater, while providing them with a safe environment in which to grow and learn."  The company is comprised of an Acting Lab and a Playwriting Lab.  Each lab meets weekly and involves 30 students ages 14 - 20, from all five boroughs of New York City.  The Youth Company has recently become a lab class for graduate students at New York University's Program in Educational Theatre.  Past original Youth Company performances include: Falling Up, Beneath My Feet, Delirious, Uncensored 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2005, and the FreshPlay Festival, the annual theater festival for the Youth Company.  The FreshPlay Festival features original one-act plays written by company members, with direction and performances by adult professionals, alongside a full-length play, written and performed by the Acting Lab ensemble.

Uncensored tickets are a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students.  Seating is limited and reservations are highly recommended.  For reservations, please contact MCC Theater at 212-727-7722 x227.
