According to Andrew Lloyd Webber's video blog, his West End revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat features a new song written by Webber and Rice, with whom we collaborated on Joseph..., Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Webber, who remarks that the composition is the first new Webber-Rice song in over 30 years, also said that Rice has made some lyrical revisions.  However, he will not reveal what they are and encourages theatregoers to come and hear them at London's Adelphi Theatre, where Joseph... began previews on July 6th.

Webber reports that, during the show's four previews (at the time of recording his video blog, at least), Joseph... has "gone amazingly, but it's more like a kind of teenybopper rock concert than it is a musical at the moment...but one day, I suppose, we'll get it back to where it should be."  The revival has earned much publicity and popularity due to the TV casting search "Any Dream Will Do," in which Lee Mead was chosen to play the title role in Joseph..

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opens on July 18th at the Adelphi Theatre.  It is playing an extended booking period through June 7th, 2008.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat also stars Preeya Kalidas as the Narrator, Dean Collinson as Pharaoh and Stephen Tate as Jacob/Potiphar/Guru.  John Alastair, Kate Alexander, Jennifer Ashton, Paul Basleigh, Verity Bentham, James Bisp, Tyman Boatwright, Simon Coulthard, Lucie Downer, Tom Gillies, Emma Harris, Pip Jordan, Louise Madison, Emily Mascarenhas, Sarah Meade, Nathaniel Morrison, Mark Oxtoby, Adam Pearce, Tamlyn Platts, Pippa Raine, Fiona Reyes, Ricky Rojas, Craig Scott, Jonathan Stewart, Kate Tydman, Russel Walker, Neal Wright and Danielle Young will comprise the ensemble.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, with music by Webber and lyrics and book by Rice, is a light-hearted reimagining of the biblical tale of Joseph, who is betrayed by his 11 brothers but finds a happy ending after adventures in Egypt.  The staging of the West End revival will be based upon that of Steven Pimlott's 1991 production.
