Liza with a 'Z' DVD--with Special Features--Released April 4; Now Available for Pre-Order

Amazon.com is listing a special features-packed DVD of "Liza with a 'Z'" as being available for pre-orders; the DVD will be released on April 4th, three days after the legendary concert airs on Showtime for the first time in over twenty years.

The Collector's Edition DVD will include the Grammy Award-winning original "Liza with a 'Z'" soundtrack on a separate CD, full-length program commentary by Minnelli, Minnelli's performances at the 2005 Toronto Film Festival and 2005 GLAAD Awards, a feature in which Minnelli interviews John Kander, the complete "Biography: Liza Minnelli" that originally aired on A&E, and biographies of Minnelli and Bob Fosse. The DVD, released by Showtime Entertainment, is set at a list price of $29.99, but Amazon is currently offering it for $19.49.

"Liza with a Z" will be seen on TV on April 1st for the first time since a re-airing in September of 1973; the concert premiered on September 10th, 1972.

Fully restored and digitally remastered, the concert features Minnelli performing trademark numbers such as the title song as well as standards. "Liza with a 'Z'" netted Emmy Awards for Minnelli (for Best Performance), Bob Fosse (Best Direction and Best Choreography), John Kander and Fred Ebb (Best Music, Lyrics and Special Material) and Outstanding Single Program--Variety and Popular Music. The concert, which was filmed live at the Lyceum Theatre, also won the coveted Peabody Award. "Liza with a 'Z'" is produced for Showtime by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. 

In addition to her Emmy for "Liza with a Z," Minnelli has won three Tony Awards, an Oscar, and two Golden Globes. She won a Theatre World Award for Best Foot Forward, Tony Awards for Flora, the Red Menace and The Act, and a Special Tony Award in 1974. She was nominated for an Oscar for The Sterile Cuckoo, and won the Oscar and the Golden Globe Award for the film version of Cabaret, directed by Bob Fosse. The daughter of Judy Garland, her other Broadway credits include The Rink, Chicago and Victor/Victoria, and she has also been seen on film in New York, New York, Arthur and others.
