Picturing Puerto Rico under the American Flag: The Photographs of Louise Rosskam (1937-1948)
May 11 - July 21
Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday from 1 to 6 pm

Picturing Puerto Rico under the American Flag presents the work of Philadelphia-born Louise Rosskam(1910-2003), a pioneer of the "golden age" of 20th-century American documentary photography. The exhibition examines the compelling and compassionate pictures that Rosskam created on the impoverished U.S. territory in the New Deal and post-World War II eras. Guest-curated by Laura Katzman, Associate Professor of Art History, James Madison University.

This exhibition is made possible by the Hunter College East Harlem Art Gallery and the President's Office, co-sponsored by Centro, Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College, CUNY.
