Lalah Hathaway Joins Dianne Reeves as a Special Guest for Carnegie Hall Performance Tonight

Carnegie Hall today announced that R&B and jazz singer/songwriter Lalah Hathaway will join renowned vocalist Dianne Reeves as a special guest on Ms. Reeves's concert, Dianne Reeves and Friends, in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage tonight, February 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Though known to many as the daughter of late soul music legend Donny Hathaway, Lalah Hathaway is an accomplished vocalist, songwriter, and pianist in her own right, with a music career spanning two decades and several solo recordings, including most recently Where It All Begins (2011, Stax). Hathaway joins a lineup that already includes bassist/vocalist Esperanza Spalding, pianist and composer/producer George Duke, and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. Reeves's longtime collaborators Peter Martin (keyboard), Romero Lumbabo (guitar), Reginald Veal (bass), and Terreon Gully (drums) will also be featured.

Dianne Reeves is widely regarded as one of the foremost female jazz vocalists in the world today and has been hailed as a natural story-teller and successor to the likes of Dinah Washington and Carmen McRae. She has been praised for her interpretation of lyrics, skilled scat singing, and vocal delivery since initially appearing on the music scene in the 1980s. The Seattle Times said that her "three-plus, pellucid octaves, diva-like delivery, and intimate sense of a song have long made her one of the most compelling vocalists in jazz."
