Rooms, a new musical billed as a "rock romance," will play the 2005 New York Musical Theatre Festival from September 13th to 23rd at the 45th Street Theatre (354 West 45th Street, between 8th & 9th Avenues).

With music and lyrics by Paul Scott Goodman and book by Goodman & Miriam Gordon, Rooms is directed by Scott Schwartz (Golda's Balcony, Jane Eyre, Bat Boy, tick, tick...Boom!). The show centers on songwriting partners Monica Miller and Ian Wallace, who meet in Glasgow, Scotland in 1977. "Monica is a middle-class Jewish girl interested in the bright lights of Broadway while Ian is a working-class rock-and-roll Catholic boy. Nevertheless, opposites attract and the two form an instant bond. Their music takes them from Glasgow to London to New York. Though Monica longs to see every room in the world, Ian is happy with four walls, a window, his music and a scotch...the show explores their musical journey around the world and through time," according to production notes. Rooms is presented by G3 Productions, a new company devoted to developing and nurturing new musicals for the stage and screen.

Rooms, which was previously seen at the University of Michigan, features Jeremy Kushnier (Bway: Footloose, Rent, Tours: Aida, Rent) and Natascia Diaz (B'way: Carousel, Seussical, Capeman, off-Bway: tick, tick...Boom!, Saturday Night, Bright Lights Big City).

Born in Scotland, Goodman wrote the book, music and lyrics for Bright Lights Big City, which was presented at The Guggenheim Museum and produced by New York Theater Workshop (a studio cast album is available on Sh-K-Boom.com). It is currently scheduled for production at the Prince Music Theater (June 2006). His other musicals include: Him & Her (New York International Fringe Festival 2002 Best Performance Award), God Save the New Wave (Bottom Line, West Bank Theater), Metropolitan Music (Marymount Manhattan College) and Just East of Broadway (The Duplex). Gordon directed and co-wrote the book for Him & Her and God Save the New Wave. Her other off-Broadway, regional and workshop credits include Tiny Dancer (in London...director and co-writer), I've Got to See You Again, When Heaven and Earth and Marathon (director).

Rooms' performance schedule is: Tuesday, September 13 at 8:00 PM, Friday, September 16 at 1:00 PM, Sunday, September 18 at 4:30 PM & 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 21 at 8:00 PM andFriday, September 23 at 8:00 PM.
