Deadline has reported that Peaky Blinders', Charlotte Riley, has signed on to play Kate Middleton in a television adaptation of West End and Broadway hit, King Charles III.

Tim Pigott-Smith is set to return to the title role of Charles, joined by Oliver Chris as William, Richard Goulding as Harry and Margot Leicester as Camilla. Priyanga Burford and Tamara Lawrance will also take part. Rupert Goold will be directing.

Mike Bartlett is set to adapt his Olivier Award-winning and Tony-nominated stage play. The future-history story will be produced by Drama Republic with shooting beginning this month in England, set to air in 2017.

Deadline describes the adaptation as, " a one-off telefilm imagining Prince Charles' accession to the throne following the Queen's death. When he refuses to sign a controversial bill into law, political chaos ensues. As Charles wrestles with his own identity, the drama explores the implications for him, his family and his subjects."
