Jonathan Pryce to Star in the Columbus Premiere of THE CARETAKER

By:

Jonathan Pryce, a Tony Award-winning veteran of stage and screen, will lead Harold Pinter's acclaimed play, The Caretaker, produced by Theatre Royal Bath Productions/Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse.

In this Columbus premiere co-presented by CAPA and CATCO-Phoenix, Pinter, described as "an original, disturbing, and arresting talent, brings the play's three characters to life in one of his greatest psychological dramas. As an elderly tramp finds lodging in the derelict home of a mentally challenged younger man and his brother, their interactions expose their struggles and fears, alternating between terror and hilarity to create an almost unbearable edge of tension."

CAPA and CATCO-Phoenix present The Caretaker April 26-29 at the Southern Theatre (21 E. Main St.). Show times include Thursday, April 26, at 8 pm; Friday, April 27, at 8 pm; Saturday, April 28, at 2 pm and 8 pm; and Sunday, April 29, at 2 pm.

Tickets are $28-$58 at the Ohio Theatre Ticket Office (39 E. State St.), all Ticketmaster outlets, and www.ticketmaster.com. To purchase tickets by phone, please call (614) 469-0939 or (800) 745-3000. Students between the ages of 13-19 may purchase $5 PNC Arts Alive All Access tickets while available.

This performance is made possible through the generous support of CAPA season sponsor American Airlines and patron sponsors John and Bebe Finn.

Written in 1960 and first performed at Everyman in 1964, The Caretaker is widely credited with putting Pinter on the theatrical map. The production recently appeared at the Adelaide Festival in Australia and the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. Following the Columbus engagement, it will make its NYC premiere at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music.

A shabby single room in West London is the setting for the battle of power and wit between brothers Mick and Aston and the disheveled Davies. Under the incisive direction of Christopher Morahan, this production, first staged in 2009, marked Pryce's return to the Everyman stage after a 35-year absence-having previously served as both artistic director and company member.
