John Malkovich to Play 'Cassanova' in Austria's THE GIACOMO VARIATIONS, Jan. 2011

The Associated Press reports that John Malkovich will star as an "aged" 'Casanova' in the Austrian production of The Giacomo Variations. The production will make its premiere at the Ronacher Theater in Vienna on January 5, 2011.  The production, which is described as a cross between a play and an opera, will feature music by Mozart and Austrian baritone Florian Boesch as Malkovich's singing counterpart. Over the last 25 years, Malkovich has appeared in more than 70 motion pictures. For his roles in Places in the Heart and In the Line of Fire, he received Academy Award nominations. He has also appeared in critically acclaimed films such as Empire of the Sun, The Killing Fields, Dangerous Liaisons, Being John Malkovich, and Changeling.

Malkovich has received Drama Desk Awards for his work on Death Of A Salesman and Balm in Gilead and was nominated for Drama Desk Awards for True West and Burn This.  He has appeared on Broadway in Burn This, The Caretaker, Arms And The Man, and Death Of A Salesman.
