By: BWW News Desk Apr. 22, 2010
Lesley Gore will perform at Joe's Pub on Thursday, April 22 at 7 PM. The most commercially successful solo artist of the "Girl Group" era, with a string of hits, including "It's My Party" and "You Don't Own Me," Lesley Gore dazzled the world with her brilliant pop instincts and independent spirit. Her now-burnished voice deepens everything it touches with the hard-won wisdom of time. Tickets will cost $30.
Other upcoming performances include The East West Quintet with the Chris Morrissey Quartet on Thursday, April 22 at 9:30 PM (Tickets cost $12 in advance at $15 at the door), Anais Mitchell & The Hadestown Orchestra on Friday, April 23 at 7:30 PM (tickets will cost $12), and Lady Rizo: Unescorted on Friday, April 23 at 10 PM (tickets will cost $15). After high profile appearances in 2009 at South by Southwest Festival, and the Latin Grammy Awards, Mexican recording artist Juan Son makes his Joe's Pub debut on April 24, 2010 with a special appearance by John Cameron Mitchell. A student of the London Center of Contemporary Music, Juan Son is the former lead singer of the popular Mexican indie rock band Porter. Juan Son's first solo album, "Mermaid Sashimi" (2009) showcases his talents as both singer and storyteller with a production featuring vocal effects, wordless chanting, and lyrics in both English and Spanish. The album was nominated for a Latin Grammy.Join stars Anita Cookie, Clams Casino and Neil O'Fortune for the show that will have the whole audience bouncing off the satellites; a night of striptease, live music and comedy celebrating the only New Wave band in history to combine surf guitar, beehives, girl group harmonies and spoken word to give us songs about outer space dance parties, poodles died green, and groovy crustaceans. Also starring Amber Ray, Jonny Porkpie, Minnie Tonka, Miss Saturn and more, there will be so much sexy, hilarious action on stage, you'll think the show has 52 Girls in it.
