Jersey's The Theatre Company Hosts SWEENEY TODD Auditions, 6/1 & 6/2

The Theater Company (TTC) will hold open call auditions for their summer production of SWEENEY TODD - THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET on June 1 & 2, 2010 from 6-9pm at DeBaun Auditorium in Hoboken, New Jersey. Based on a version of SWEENEY TODD by Christopher Bond, the musical, with book by Hugh Wheeler and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, is a chilling, suspenseful story of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime.

SWEENEY TODD tells the tale of an unjustly exiled barber who returns to London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravished his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs soon has the people of London lining up in droves with her mysterious new meat pie recipe. Sophisticated, macabre, visceral and uncompromising, SWEENEY TODD nevertheless has a great sense of fun, mixing intense drama with moments of dark humor.

Performances will be July 14-17 & 21-24 at DeBaun Auditorium in Hoboken, NJ. Non-Equity auditions will be held on June 1 & 2, 2010 from 6-9pm at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall, 5th & Hudson Sts., Hoboken, NJ 07030

Auditioners should bring a headshot and resume (if possible), along with sheet music (no acapella or tracks allowed) for thirty-two bars of of each of two contrasting songs, at least one of which should show a similar character and musical style to that of SWEENEY TODD.  An accompanist will be provided.  Non-Equity auditions will be on a first come, first serve basis - no appointments will be scheduled nor will resumes/headshots will be accepted in advance. Travel stipends will be available for some parts  Equity auditions have the same requirements as non-Equity auditions. Equity auditioners should e-mail auditions@thetheatercompany.org for an appointment on June 1 or 2 between 6-9pm, indicating date/time preference.  Those interested in being a part of the
orchestra should also email auditions@thetheatercompany.org; orchestra auditions will be held in June.

This production will be of the original version, not the version from the latest Broadway revival.
