JUNK: A ROCK OPERA to Premiere New Material in JUNK: A ROCK OPERA Concert at Joe's Pub, 4/7
Following a sold-out Joe's Pub concert in January, Junk: A Rock Opera will hold another one-night concert performance April 7th at 9:30pm at Joe's Pub, featuring new songs and orchestrations in addition to beloved greatest hits.
The work, directed by Shakina Nayfack with musical direction by Jeremy Robin Lyons, played a sold-out concert in January at the same venue. Junk was also seen at the Malmö Symphonic Orchestra in Sweden as well as in an extended Los Angeles workshop.
The cast includes Katrina Rose Dideriksen (Pregnancy Pact, Bloodsong of Love), Ashkon Davaran, Dan Domenech (Rock of Ages), Freddie Kimmel (Superfly), Paul Louis Lessard, Lauren Marcus, Natalie Wachen, Sarah Cetrulo, Katie Lee Hill, Will Roland and Justin Figueroa.
Junk is, according to director Nayfack, "part social satire, part love story, and part existential allegory. The show takes place in a near-future urban wasteland run by Junk Incorporated. Anna, a Junk employee, dreams of starting a revolution with her all-girl rock band, the MetroJets."
The band will feature Mike Rosengarten (guitar), Christopher Bastian (bass), Jeff Roberts (drums), and Kelly Thomas (keys).
Brainpool, whose members include Christoffer Lundquist, David Birde and Jens Jansson, originally released Junk - A Rock Opera as a double-disc concept album on Playground Records in 2004. The show premiered in concert with the Malmö Symphonic Orchestra in Sweden in 2005, and is currently being developed for theatrical production with director Nayfack, who has also worked with the band to expand the libretto and score since its 2007 Los Angeles workshop. Shakina Nayfack and Megan Savage are co-producing, and Rebecca Feldman is casting.
Tickets to More Pieces of JUNK at Joe's Pub are available for $15. Joe's Pub is located at 425 Lafayette Street. For more information and tickets call (212) 967-7555 or visit JoesPub.com.
