JEWEL'S CATCH ONE Documentary to Make Streaming Debut on Prime Video and Apple TV
Directed by C. Fitz, the film chronicles America's oldest Black-owned disco and its LGBTQ+ legacy.
Freestyle Digital Media has acquired VOD rights to JEWEL'S CATCH ONE, the award-winning documentary feature directed by C. Fitz. The film will be re-released on June 16, 2026, across North American digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms including Apple TV and Prime Video.
Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Allen Media Group, negotiated the acquisition directly with the filmmakers, Dancing Pictures, and Tiffany Boyle of Ramo Law.
The documentary explores the history of Catch One, recognized as the oldest Black-owned disco in the United States. Founded by Jewel Thais-Williams, the Los Angeles nightclub became a major cultural institution and gathering space for Black and LGBTQ+ communities across four decades.
Directed by C. Fitz and written by Fitz and Pat Branch, the film combines archival footage, interviews, and music to document the club’s role during the AIDS crisis and its impact on activism, nightlife, and community organizing.
The documentary features appearances by Thelma Houston, Sharon Stone, Madonna, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Sandra Bernhard, Jenifer Lewis, Maxine Waters, Jennifer Holliday, and others, with narration by CCH Pounder.
During its festival run, JEWEL'S CATCH ONE screened at the BFI London Film Festival, INSIDE OUT Toronto LGBT Film Festival, and Palm Springs International Film Festival. The documentary received four Best Documentary awards, a Jury Award, and recognition on Palm Springs’ “Best of Fest” list.
“I wanted to create an invitation to witness change through the film's portal into history,” said Fitz. “Through Jewel's life, this film teaches lessons against the backdrop of survival, love, and courage. In times like these, it's critical to remember the resilience of those who stood against hate. I can't wait for more people to experience it.”
