HADESTOWN: TEEN EDITION to Open at York College's Waldner Performing Arts Center
DreamWrights and Weary Arts Group co-produce Anaïs Mitchell's Tony-winning musical with a 60-person youth cast.
DreamWrights Center for Community Arts, in co-production with Weary Arts Group, will present Hadestown: Teen Edition, running June 5 through 14, 2026 at the Waldner Performing Arts Center at York College of Pennsylvania.
The production is directed by Charissa Moye, with co-director and sound designer Ashley Shaw.
About the Production
Hadestown: Teen Edition is the youth adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Hadestown, with music, lyrics, and book by Anaïs Mitchell. Set in a mythic Depression-era world where the gods walk among mortals, the show weaves together two love stories: young, idealistic Orpheus and his beloved Eurydice, and the ancient, complicated marriage of Hades and Persephone. When Eurydice descends to the underworld, a factory-like realm ruled by Hades, Orpheus must follow her and trust that a song can be enough to change fate.
The score draws from American folk, blues, jazz, and roots music, giving the story a sound that feels both timeless and urgent. It is a show about doubt, devotion, and what it costs to believe, performed by a company of young performers from across the York community.

A Co-Production with Weary Arts Group
Hadestown: Teen Edition marks another chapter in the ongoing partnership between DreamWrights Center for Community Arts and Weary Arts Group, two York-based theatre organizations with a shared commitment to youth-centered performance and arts education. DreamWrights and Weary Arts Group have collaborated across multiple productions, and this co-production reflects what that partnership does well: combining creative talent, institutional knowledge, and shared resources to bring opportunities to young performers that neither organization could offer as fully on its own.
Both organizations believe that theatre builds community and that young people deserve access to ambitious, professional-quality productions. Working together allows both companies to pursue that shared mission with more depth and reach than either could manage alone.
A New Home: Waldner Performing Arts Center at York College of Pennsylvania
This production marks the first time DreamWrights has staged a production at the Waldner Performing Arts Center at York College of Pennsylvania. The partnership with York College brings DreamWrights into one of the region's premier performance spaces, extending the organization's reach and deepening its ties to the broader York arts and education community.
York College of Pennsylvania and DreamWrights share a commitment to educational opportunity and the arts. Bringing this production to the Waldner Performing Arts Center is a reflection of what both institutions value and what becomes possible when the York community invests in its young people.
