CHOIR BOY, DIE MOMMIE DIE, and DEAD INSIDE to Headline EPAC's Pride Month Programming
Lancaster's EPAC will present Charles Busch's Die Mommie Die starring drag icon Miss Amie at the Queer Voices Festival.
The Ephrata Performing Arts Center will present a vibrant lineup of queer-centered programming this June, spotlighting LGBTQ+ voices across theatre, storytelling, and visual art.
Currently playing on the EPAC stage through June 7th is CHOIR BOY, the acclaimed drama by Tarell Alvin McCraney. The play follows Pharus, a talented young singer at a prestigious Black prep school, as he struggles to reconcile his authentic self with the expectations of tradition, masculinity, and belonging. Filled with stirring gospel music and emotional depth, CHOIR BOY is a powerful examination of identity, faith, and acceptance.
The following weekend marks the return of EPAC's fourth annual Queer Voices Festival, featuring two staged readings that celebrate queer artistry and storytelling:
On June 12th, audiences can experience DIE MOMMIE DIE, the campy cult classic by Charles Busch, starring Lancaster drag icon Miss Amie. Inspired by the glamorous Hollywood melodramas of the 1960s, the play follows a faded singer trapped in a disastrous marriage who finds herself at the center of a deliciously outrageous murder mystery filled with scandal, secrets, and sharp wit.
On June 13th, the festival will then feature a reading of DEAD INSIDE, a brand-new play by Gwen Tulin. Part ghost story, part fast-paced comedy, and part tender family drama, DEAD INSIDE explores what happens when unresolved grief refuses to stay buried, bringing generations of a family together in unexpected and often hilarious ways.
Tickets for the Queer Voices Festival are entirely pay-what-you-can, thanks to the Lancaster County Community Foundation LGBTQ+ Giving Circle.
In addition to the performances, EPAC's lobby will feature artwork from local queer artists throughout the festival weekend, transforming the theatre into a showcase for LGBTQ+ creativity across multiple artistic disciplines.
Together, these events offer audiences the opportunity to engage with stories that entertain, challenge, and celebrate the richness of queer experiences. From award-winning contemporary theatre to new works and visual art, EPAC's Pride Month programming highlights the many voices that continue to shape the cultural landscape of Central Pennsylvania and beyond.
