Sweden's 'Queen of Swing' brings her multi-instrument mastery and vintage jazz flair to Portsmouth.
Swedish multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and entertainer Gunhild Carling will perform at Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on July 26 at 7:30 p.m.
Known around the world for her musicianship and theatrical flair, Carling has built an international following through a unique blend of jazz performance, comedy, dance, and vaudeville-inspired showmanship. A true musical polymath, she performs on more than 11 instruments, including trumpet, trombone, harmonica, harp, recorder, flute, ukulele, and her signature jazz bagpipes.
One of the highlights of a Gunhild Carling performance is her celebrated finale, during which she plays three trumpets simultaneously, showcasing the virtuosic creativity that has made her a favorite among jazz audiences worldwide.
In addition to performing jazz standards and swing-era classics, Carling incorporates tap dancing, humor, and vintage entertainment traditions into her live shows. Her distinctive style has helped introduce traditional jazz to new audiences across the globe.
Carling has appeared on major television programs including America's Got Talent and Sweden's Let's Dance. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with renowned artists and ensembles including the Count Basie Orchestra and Postmodern Jukebox, while also maintaining an active international touring schedule.
The Portsmouth engagement is part of a busy summer season for jazz and live music programming across the country. Recent highlights include Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts' presentation of eleven American roots, jazz, and global music events through August, as well as Carnegie Hall's NYO Jazz ensemble making its SFJAZZ debut alongside Dee Dee Bridgewater.
