Grammy Winner Janis Ian Performs At McLean Theater 4/4

By: Mar. 20, 2009

Singer/songwriter Janis Ian, whose hit song "At Seventeen" won her a Grammy award for Best Female Pop Vocalist in 1976, will perform at McLean's Alden Theatre at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 4. Tickets are $34/$28 McLean district residents. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Ian's career began at 13-years-old when she penned "Society's Child," a controversial hit single about an interracial relationship. She also wrote "Jesse" and "Stars," two songs that have been recorded by artists as diverse as Mel Torme and Cher. The seminal "At Seventeen" brought her five Grammy nominations in 1975; the most any solo female artist had ever garnered at the time, and is now reaching its third generation of listeners.

Last year, Tarcher/Penguin released Ian's book, Society's Child: My Autobiography, in North America to stellar reviews; O Magazine called it "Hugely readable" and recommended it as one of 27 "must-reads" for the summer. Ian will be available to sign copies of Society's Child after the concert.

Tickets are on sale now! To purchase tickets, stop by the Alden Theatre Box Office, or to purchase tickets by telephone or online, contact TICKETMASTER at 703-573-SEAT, or www.ticketmaster.com. For more information, call 703-790-0123, or visit: www.mcleancenter.org/alden-theatre .
