Producers of the 5th annual Gershwin Awards invite New York Metro area teachers to nominate students to compete for the title of Best Leading Actor and Best Leading Actress in a high school musical. High Schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, Westchester, and Long Island are eligible to participate in the program. Award rules, regulations, prizes and official application is available at www.gershwinawards.com. Nominations must be received no later than May 1, 2015.

The Gershwin Awards will be held on Saturday, May 30. Forty students who have played a leading role in a licensed high school production of a qualifying musical during the 2014-2015 academic year will be accepted to participate in a day long musical theater experience that includes voice and movement rehearsal and culminates in an ensemble presentation and a showcase of solo performance of a song each student performed in their school musical.

A Best Leading Actor and Best Leading Actress-winner will be selected by a panel of industry experts to represent the New York City region at the 7th National High School Musical Theatre Awards, an annual celebration of outstanding achievement in musical theatre performance, which will be held on Monday, June 29, at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. Two high school students representing thirty regional awards programs from around America will compete for a national title.
