According to The Globe and Mail, the Canadian-made Broadway hit musical THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is being developed into a movie musical. Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush is set to star.

Screenwriter and director Don McKellar, who created the Tony-winning musical with Bob Martin, Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, said that Rush hopes to reprise the role of "Man in Chair" in a film adaptation, according to the article.

Rush played Man in Chair in the Austalian premiere at the Melbourne theatre Company earlier this year. "Main in Chair" is the musical-obsessed narrator of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE.

"We saw him and he was excellent - and also he's an excellent person," McKellar told the Globe and Mail. "We're pretty excited about being involved with him"

Rush is currently in Toronto for the world premiere of his film "The King's Speech" at the Toronto International Film Festival. He'll stay for a couple of days to work with the team of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE film.

"He is incredibly Man in Chair-like," McKellar said of Rush to the Globe and Mail. "When he was a little boy, instead of playing with trucks, he was making model theatres out of shoeboxes."

Currently, the film is in the early developmental stages. There is still no script. "We're pursuing it in various ways, but there's nothing concrete to say," he said.
